Giovinco nets in Al-Hilal FC debut

Former Toronto FC striker Sebastian Giovinco scored in his debut for Saudi side Al-Hilal FC as they beat Al-Qadsiah 4-1 on Tuesday.

The Italian entered the game in the 61st minute and replaced Peruvian Andre Carrillo with his side up 2-0 at the time.

It didn’t take long for Giovinco to make his mark, as he collected a pass in 80th minute, beat two defenders and then slotted home with his right foot after a great one-two with Bafetimbi Gomis.

The goal marks the striker’s first in Saudi Pro League play, as the 32-year-old left former side Toronto on January 31 for a fee reported to be in the region of US$2-3 million.

Giovinco was entering the final year of a contract that paid him US$7.115m with the Canadian side. TFC claimed the Italian refused to take a pay cut, while he stated he would have accepted less to remain in Toronto.

Over the course of four seasons in Toronto, the Italian netted 68 goals in 114 league appearances and won MVP honours in 2015.
