Former Great Olympics head coach, Godwin Attram has lamented over the inability of ex-Hearts of Oak attacker Samuel Afum to rise to the level of Egyptian star Mohammed Salah.

The former Ghana youth star displayed a lot of potential at the early stages of his career. Prior to partying ways with the Phobians, the attacker netted 13 goals for the club to become the league’s joint-top scorer.

The outstanding display earned him a transfer to join the Egyptian side Smouha SC after at the end of the 2009/10 season.

For his 3-year stay with the Egyptian club, Mohammed Salah also rose through the ranks as a young playing with El Mokawloon.

Though Samuel Afum possessed talent than the now Liverpool poster boy, the Ghanaian could not reach the height of the Egyptian.

Speaking in an interview with the Sports Check program on GhanaWeb, Godwin Attram who played alongside Afum at Smouha SC has bemoaned his compatriot's failure to reach the levels of Mohammed Salah.

“I sit down here and cry that Mohamed Salah was able to make it to the top and not Samuel Afum,” Godwin Attram said.

“Because I left the boy and I went to Saudi Arabia and he went to Switerzland. Whenever he’s on holidays he comes to me alright and I say Affum have you trained but he would say, I have trained already. So till today whenever I see Mohammed Salah, Terek and Imani, I ask how can they be on top and not Samuel Affum?”

“Those times when you see Samuel Affum,” they look up to us because “I showed him the way but when I left you see, he fell off”, Godwin Atram said.

He added, “In football, its always good you have people who motivate you and advice you, I can do it alone because I have a strong mentality but others cannot do it alone.”

Samuel Afum, 29, is now in Finland where he plays for Ilves.
