Gov’t looking at the return of football with inclusion of supporters – Sports Minister reveals

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has revealed that the government is making plans that will allow supporters to go to the stadium when football returns.

Football has been on suspension in Ghana since the middle of March when the government placed a ban on all public gatherings as one of many measures to tackle the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Although the ban on several activities has been gradually lifted in the last 2 months, the football community awaits their turn.

According to Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, that will soon change. He has indicated that the government is making considerations on the return of football that will ensure the safety of fans who go to match venues.

“Just recently, the President spoke about the measures we are putting in place to control the Coronavirus. I plead with you, God willing, the protocols we are working on will ensure that the President would speak again and football shall bounce back”, the sports minister said as quoted on graphic.com.gh.

Hon. Isaac Asiamah continued, “Paramount in the protocols will be the safety of supporters, supporters are very important to the government. Supporters make the game beautiful so they have to be protected.

“It won't be long, football will bounce back looking at the measures we will put in place. However, everyone who loves the game must be protected, that is very vital”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is looking at the start of the 2020/2021 football season in October and hopes the government lifts the ban on contact sport this month.
