Harrison Afful named Man-Of-The-Match in Columbus Crew defeat to Montreal Impact in MLS

Ghana and Columbus Crew SC defender Harrison Afful was voted as Man-Of-The-Match on Saturday when his side fell 3-0 to Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo in a potential playoff-clinching match for the Black & Gold as a win or draw would have sealed a top-six regular-season finish for them.

His compatriot Jonathan Mensah, made his 50th MLS regular-season start in the match against Montreal Impact.

He has so far made 26 regular-season appearances (25 starts) and scored on goal this season.

Although Columbus Crew lost the game, Afful’s outstanding display in the game didn’t go unnoticed as he was voted Man-Of-The-Match in the game.

Columbus now sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference and two points back of fourth-place Philadelphia following the Union’s 5-1 win over Minnesota United FC on Saturday.

Saphir Taider shot the host the lead on the 32nd minute from the spot before Alejandro Silva made it 2-0 on the 44th minute.

Ignacio Piatti wrapped up the victory for the home side with a fine strike on the 59th minute.

Afful has been named in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the country’s  2019 African Cup of Nations doubleheader against Sierra later this week.
