Harry Kane Set to Lead the Line for England in Crunch 2018 World Cup Qualifier Against Scotland

Published on: 07 November 2016

Harry Kane is set to lead the line for England against Scotland on November 11 - despite the striker only returning to full fitness after a two month injury lay off.

The Tottenham forward is expected to be handed a starting berth by Three Lions interim manager Gareth Southgate for the crunch 20128 World Cup qualifier, according to the Daily Mirror.

However, Kane only made his comeback from straining ankle ligaments in September in Sunday's North London derby with Arsenal - his first appearance for Spurs after receiving treatment on the problem for the past eight weeks.

The 22-year-old's lack of game time has already led to concerns from sections of both Spurs and England's fanbase, with some questioning whether Kane should be starting in what is sure to be a frenetic encounter between England and Scotland.

The pair are set to lock horns at Wembley for the first time since November 2014, but the clash against Gordon Strachan's men is the first competitive meeting between the two sides since November 1999.

With a much needed three points and bragging rights up for grabs, fans of both nations want their side to play their strongest and fittest eleven, and some do not believe Kane should be figuring from the off in such a high-profile game.

Kane, however, insists that he is raring to go ahead of Friday evening's match and in quotes published by the Daily Mail, said he was looking forward to facing the Auld Enemy.

He said: "It's a big game, another rivalry and another derby. I'm looking forward to it. I'm ready and I'm fit. I'm looking forward to being away with the team, working with them and trying to get a good result."

Kane also added that he needed the break that came with sustaining his ankle injury after playing two years of non-stop football for club and country, before returning to haunt Arsenal once more by bagging Tottenham's equaliser in Sunday's 1-1 draw from the penalty spot.

He said: "It gave me seven weeks off to rest the other muscles that haven't been rested in a while. It's good. I got fit and I made sure I stayed healthy. I never want to be injured or missing games. But when you get injured you have to look at the positives to help you.

"I had a break when I first got injured, went away with the missus,' said Kane. 'After that there were double sessions in the gym and outside to maintain my health and fitness so that when I was called upon, like at Arsenal, I was ready.

"I felt fine. I've been working hard to be ready and I wouldn't have been out there if I wasn't feeling good enough. I'm happy with it. I still need to get some match fitness but I was delighted to be out there and to score."
