Havertz happy with Leverkusen

Published on: 15 July 2019

Bayer Leverkusen rising star Kai Havertz says he has no intention of leaving the club this summer, despite reported interest from a number of clubs across Europe.

The 20-year-old midfielder enjoyed a superb campaign for Die Werkself last season, scoring 17 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances.

For the coming season, I can definitely say that Leverkusen is the right place for me.

His domestic form was good enough to attract the attention of national team boss Joachim Low, with Havertz making his senior debut in a friendly against Peru in September 2018.

His efforts also saw him catch the eye of several potential suitors, but Havertz, who is under contract with Leverkusen for another three years, says the time is not right to seek a fresh challenge.

He told Suddeutsche Zeitung: "For me, it has long been clear that I will spend next season in Leverkusen, without any ifs and buts.

"I feel very well in Leverkusen and I see a period here in which I can develop very well.

"At some point I will take the next step. If it comes to that, then no-one will be angry with me here. You just want to achieve the most possible in your career.

"It's logical for clubs to come close, but there was nothing to be agreed and not too much to talk about. For the coming season, I can definitely say that Leverkusen is the right place for me."

Leverkusen can be backed at 15/2 to top the Bundesliga next season if Bayern Munich are excluded, with RB Leipzig 11/2 and Hoffenheim 10/1.
