Hearts nearly transferred Vincent Atinga last season- Coach Yaw Preko

Former Accra Hearts of Oak Coach, Yaw Preko has revealed that the club nearly transferred stalwart defender Vincent Atinga following his inability to break into the first team.

The towering player is arguably the best defender in the Ghana Premier League this season and was a key member of the WAFU winning team.

The 21 year old joined the phobians from Medeama SC five season ago but struggled to impress and was mostly reduced to the bench by the impressive duo of Inusah Musah and Robin Gnagne.

However, the player who has earned a lot of praise this season for his tremendous performance was nearly shown the exit last season at the Accra based club.

“When [Kenichi Yatsuhashi] I remember he was one of the players who was put on transfer but Nassamu and myself spoke to Keni about Atinga and because he listens to us he agreed the player stays,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“What Atinga lacked was the confidence to play and I gave him that. He plays oozing with confidence now and it’s good for his development,” he added.

Vincent Atinga scored two goals at the just ended West Africa Football Union including on in the final against Nigeria.

The defender will thus join teammates Patrick Razak, Thomas Abbey, Winful Cobinna and Kwame Kizito as they rejoin their club for the MTN FA Cup semifinal against Wa All Stars.
