Hearts of Oak defeat Olympics on penalties to lift 2019 Homowo Cup

Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak has defeated Great Olympics on penalties to lift the 2019 Homowo Cup played as part of this year’s Homowo celebration at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The two Greater Accra Regional based clubs went into the match with high expectations after playing out a goalless draw in the first leg of the encounter which was played a couple of weeks ago at the same venue.

At the end of an entertaining first half, the two sides had to go into the break with no goal from either side. Though the Phobians totally outplayed their opponent, there was nothing to show for their efforts.

An improved performance in the second half saw Kim Grant’s team taking a deserved lead through Michelle Sarpong on the 70th minute.

Iddrisu Sarlar equalized for Great Olympics later in the match to ensure the two teams resorted to the lottery of the penalty shootout to decide who takes home the coveted trophy.

Following a nervy period of shootout, it is Hearts of Oak who has been crowned champions of the Homowo Cup after beating Olympics 3-1.
