Highlights: Nigeria fights to hold improved Ghana to a goalless draw – 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs

A resilient display from Nigeria saw the side holding Ghana to a goalless draw in the first leg of the playoff tie in the African qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup played on Friday night.

Nicknamed the Black Stars, Ghana today hosted the Super Eagles at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a highly-anticipated clash between the West African giants known as bitterest rivals.

Prior to the game, the Black Stars were tagged as underdogs due to the team’s poor performance at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Fortunately, a display of competent tactics from new coach Otto Addo saw Ghana play some fine football throughout the 90 minutes.

While the favourites Nigeria had their moments, Ghana finished the game as the better side, unluckily failing to score at the end of the contest.

In the end, a goalless draw now means that a slot for the 2022 FIFA World Cup will now be fought for in the second leg.

Watch highlights of the game below:

Ghana must wrap up the short stay in Ghana in the next 24 hours and travel to Abuja, Nigeria where the reverse fixture will be played.

That game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
