Highly-rated Ghanaian forward Abdul Issahaku Fatawu completes move to Liverpool on a five-year deal

English Premier League side, Liverpool FC have reached a deal to sign Ghanaian youngster Abdul Fatawu Issahaku on a five-year deal.

The 17-year-old will sign a five-year deal worth £1.5 million.

Issahaku joins Liverpool from Ghanaian second-tier club Steadfast FC.

Fatawu Issahaku courted interest from several clubs in Europe including Bayer Leverkusen, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg among others after an explosive performance at the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations staged in Mauritania.

Issahaku passed his medical in a German hospital on Friday night before the deal was sealed to complete a big turnaround for the player who was on the verge of signing for Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool snatched the player directly from Leverkusen just three days ago when the midfielder arrived in Germany with his advisors and agent to complete the deal to the Bundesliga side.

But a last-minute approach from the English giants with a much bigger offer for the player’s Ghanaian team Steadfast FC as well as a highly-improved personal term forced the agent to start playing tricks with Leverkusen.

This angered the German side to pull out of the deal and indicate their intention of being disappointed with the bad faith demonstrated by the Nigerian agent of the Ghanaian youngster.

He previously featured for the Ghana U17 team before gaining promotion to the U20 side to make his bow during the U20 Africa Cup of Nations at age 16.

Fatawu Issahaku managed to score two goals and an assist in 6 matches during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tourney held in Mauritania.

He was named the best player after the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations tournament.

Following his blistering output, the teenager has been handed a debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana by CK Akonnor for next month's international friendlies against Ivory Coast and Morocco.

Black Stars coach CK Akonnor is expected to hand the youngster his debut as he prepares his team for the World Cup qualifiers in September.
