Hudson-Odoi open to abandoning matches in the midst of racist abuse

English-born Ghanaian international Callum Hudson-Odoi has indicated that he is open to walking off the pitch during a match if is every at the receiving end of racist abuse.

According to the Chelsea FC prodigy, he will have no problem taking that decision especially when it is a collective decision from his manager and all teammates.

His comments come on the back of the recent incident in Bulgaria during England’s Euro 2021 qualifier which they won by six goals to nothing. Several racist chants from some Bulgaria supporters led to the disruption of the match on a couple of occasions.

Though UEFA has taken a strong stance against the action with some of the culprits being arrested, the discussion on how to uproot the menace continues.

Callum Hudson-Odoi who represented England u-21 in the international break says racism in football is disgusting and hopefully UEFA will sort it all out very soon.

“It is disgusting to hear or see players getting discriminated against. Hopefully everything will be sorted properly by UEFA”, the teenager said in a quote sighted on dailymail.co.uk.

He continued, “I am really proud to see the boys stick together. In those situations where they say they would walk off the pitch it is right because no player should be treated differently.

“Gareth (Southgate) is the manager, we always have to stick by him. He makes the decision. It is all up to the manager and the captain.

“It is a captain decision but also a team decision. So we all have a say in what's happening.

“If the manager says we stay on the pitch, we stay on the pitch, try to cope with it as players and we make the decision all as a team.

“If we think it is right and we can focus and carry on playing then we do that. If not and the manager says something different then we do what the manager says”.

Odoi was racially abused in Chelsea colours last season but showed great maturity and character.
