Hull City Boss Mike Phelan Says Players Are 'Depressed' After Late Defeat at Watford

Mike Phelan has bemoaned the bad luck of his Hull City side after they fell to a late defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday,

The 1-0 loss consigned the Tigers to their sixth consecutive defeat and, after a promising start to the season, Hull are now languishing in the relegation zone.

Having won their opening two games against Leicester and Swansea respectively, Phelan's side have recorded just one point in eight games.

Michael Dawson's unfortunate own goal sealed the points for Watford and, speaking toBBC Sport, Phelan admitted another defeat was difficult to take under the circumstances.

"It's very hard to take, I have got a depressed dressing room after the work they put into the game," he said.

"The winning goal is a cruel one, it's flashed across the box and hit someone on the leg and gone in.

"It could have gone anywhere. If it is a worldie then you can hold your hands up."

Despite a dominating start from the home side, Hull grew into the contest as the game wore on, Abel Hernandez missing a good chance in the second half.

"We were competitive enough in the game, we created probably the best chances in the game, but were are on the end of another defeat," Phelan added.

"We have to react to that and I am sure we will do next week.Everyone has to weigh in with goals and, at the moment, it is not happening."

Hull host Southampton in their next Premier League outing, looking to record their first win since August.
