Kwame Opoku has disclosed that it breaks his heart for not being able to play in front of Asante Kotoko fans at their home grounds, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Porcupine Warriors opted to use the Accra Sports Stadium as the home grounds due to the renovations works which is still ongoing at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Following his impressive outings in the first round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League, the 21-year-old has joined Algerian giants USM Alger on a four and half year deal.
The forward scored 7 goals in 16 league appearances and once in four Africa outings for Kotoko.
“It really pains me a lot to not have played at the Baba Yara Stadium for the Kumasi fans to know me well.
“I remember when Nkoranza Warriors came to Kumasi to play Kotoko, I said I will score and I did score also,” Opoku told Kumasi-based Ashh FM.
“The fans were amazing and it hurts I couldn’t play in front of them in Kumasi. They would have known me better if I had played at the Baba Yara Stadium," he added.
Opoku arrived from Nkoranza Warriors in February 2020 and was due to be registered for the second round of the 2019/20 season but COVID-19 happened, postponing his debut to November that year when a new season started afresh.
Kwame Opoku – who is currently in the Black Stars camp – is expected to join his new club after the upcoming Afcon qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome on March 25 and 28 respectively.
