I don’t want winning the AFCON to be my main focus - Ghana coach CK Akonnor

Head coach for the Ghana national team, C.K Akonnor has indicted that he is focusing on improving the team rather than winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy immediately.

The gaffer was appointed in January to head the technical team of the Black Stars following the exit of coach James Kwesi Appiah after his contract with the team expired.

With the Black Stars enduring an AFCON drought dating back to 1982, there is the desire and expectations from the Ghanaian populace for Coach C.K Akonnor to lead the team to glory on the continent.

Speaking in an interview with Starr FM, the former Asante Kotoko coach says he believes if he improves the team, they will be able to achieve they success every Ghanaian is wishing for.

“I don't want that to be my main focus. My focus is to try as much as I can to improve the team. Once the team improves, we'll get there”, he told Bola Ray.

Coach C.K Akonnor continued, “Don’t forget we have been to the finals a couple of times. It means we are not far from it. I have followed the team as a scout. I have followed the team in so many ways”

“I don’t want to be talking about winning the AFCON and winning the AFCON. It is in a way putting pressure on myself and the team. But of course, I want to achieve that success.
