Asante Kotoko captain Felix Annan has apologised to the traveling fans after the 2-0 defeat to FC San Pedro in the CAF confederation cup  at the Houphouet Boigny Sports Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.

The porcupine warriors had a lot of fans traveling cross the border to Abijan with hopes of returning with a victory after they recorded 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Sports stadium but exited the competition by 2-1 on aggregate.

“I feel hurt for our fans who traveled from Ghana to Cote d’Ivoire to support us,” said the goalkeeper as he reacted to the fans’ unaccommodating post-match reactions. “I feel their pain and I think if I were in their shoes, I would have reacted and do more than they did. All I want to say is a big sorry to them because all we have is them and ourselves.”

“With due respect to San Pedro, but I don’t think this is a team that should stop us from qualifying to the group stage. This is the most painful defeat I have ever had in my Kotoko career. I do not know how to explain it. Our attitude and mental toughness were not there because it is painful how we lost. We cannot be committing these sort of mistakes at this stage.”

The Porcupines conceded an early goal but buckled up quickly to put things under control before FC San Pedro fetched the winner late in the game with goals.

Goals from Soumaro Cheick and Tidjae Diomande helped FC San Pedro to record a 2-0 home win over Asante Kotoko at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.

The Orange lads booked themselves a slot in the next stage after frustrating the two-time CAF Champions League title holders with an early goal through Soumaro Cheick and a A late strike by Tidjae Diomande handed FC San Pedro the ticket to the group stages of the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup.
