I have 40 core players for the Black Stars- CK Akonnor

Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor has revealed that he has a core of 40 players who will regularly feature for the Black Stars based on performances.

His policy is a different one from Kwesi Appiah who selected far more players for the Black Stars in friendlies, qualifiers and main tournaments.

"We have 40 players on our data. I think 40 should be a good number. Within the 40 we can be changing but we will keep the number 40 and then we will be looking at it," he told Joy Sports.

"As time goes on, we will be looking at the performances which will be the most important thing. I will not call players based on their names because 'it is CK Akonnor and he is playing for Manchester United so I should invite him'. He is in Manchester United but is he doing well? Is he playing in the second team? Is he a regular? Is he scoring?"

"Then you look at somebody who is playing for Asante Kotoko and somebody who is there [Europe] and not playing. It is a big question for me. Once I see that the player is doing very well, I have my imagination and philosophy on what I want to do."

He added: "It will be based on performance and attitude also on the field of play."
