I spoke to Mohammed Salisu and he told me he has no intention to play for Ghana – Alhaji Grusah

Veteran Ghanaian football administrator, Alhaji Karim Grusah has disclosed that he recently had a conversation with Mohammed Salisu and the defender made it clear he has no intention of playing for the Black Stars.

Prior to the start of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, the Southampton defender was contacted by the Ghana FA over his availability to be included in the Ghana squad.

As expected due to past experiences, Mohammed Salisu turned down the invite and hence was excluded from the Ghana squad from the AFCON.

Speaking to Atinka FM in an interview today, Alhaji Grusah has lifted the lid on a conversation he had with the centre-back.

According to him, the Southampton defender wants to have nothing to do with the Ghana national team.

“The Black Stars Chairman tasked me to speak to Salisu cos he's from Kumasi. I called his dad & he linked me to him. Salisu flatly told me to stay away from his matter. He questioned me that if he was my son, would I advise him to play for Ghana?"

“I'm not the only person who has spoken to him. I know CK Akunnor went to him, he said he won't play. Even the GFA President said he found where his mother stays and went to her. I don't know what happened but the Salisu is not ready to play,” Alhaji Grusah shared.

He continued, "He was angry when I called him. He insisted several times that I should stay out of the matter because he doesn't want to have any problem with me. I'm not going to involve myself in his matter again. I don't know the problem he has with the GFA but I will not call him again.”

Meanwhile, Ghanaians on social media continue to plead with the player to agree to represent the Ghana national team.

He earned massive applause over the past weekend when Southampton held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s in the English Premier League.
