I Will Work hard to maintain the number one spot- Ashantigold goalkeeper George Apronti

Ashantigold goalkeeper George Apronti has indicated he will work hard to keep the number one spot. The 21 year old was handed the number role after the miners conceded nine goals in two games.

Apronti made his season debut when Ashantigold played Liberty Professionals in the match day 7 of the Ghana Premier League where he kept a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over the scientific soccer lads.

The technical team kept faith in the outstanding youngster and elected him again for their away game at Elmina Sharks which they lost narrowly by a goal to nil.

“It feels good and it’s okay to man the post. With self-confidence I think anything you want to do. You can do it. I had that confidence so the feeling is normal,” he said.

Ashantigold have struggled to get a replacement for Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda who joined Enyimba after last season. However, George Apronti is hopeful of being the safest pair of hands for the miners.

“I have always wanted to be the number one goalkeeper. Even when I wasn’t keeping, I was working extra harder, I was so determined and I kept training. So, yes, I would like to be the number goalkeeper,” he added.

Ashantigold will next face Bolga All-stars at the Obuasi Len Clay Park.
