I’m a bit skeptical – Ghana legend Mohammed Polo on Chris Hughton’s Black Stars appointment

Ghana legend Mohammed Polo is unhappy with the appointment of Chris Hughton as Black Stars coach.

The Ghana FA announced the former Newcastle United and Brighton manager as the new coach of the national team on Sunday, replacing Otto Addo who resigned after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Hearts of Oak star and 1978 AFCON winner said, I’m a bit skeptic with Hughton’s appointment in the sense that he was part of the technical that took us to the World Cup and failed. The way things went at the World Cup was very painful, we needed just a draw against Uruguay to qualify to the knockout phase but we couldn’t”

“We could have mapped up a strategy against Uruguay because we had equally good players to do that but unfortunately the technical team failed us” he said.

Black Stars will be looking to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and many Ghanaians will be hoping that Hughton can lead the team to success by winning next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
