I’m glad Fatawu Issahaku scored but it was against Nicaragua with all due respect – Sporting Lisbon manager

The head coach of Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, Rúben Amorim was not impressed Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scored for Ghana against Nicaragua.

Although the gaffer says he is happy the teenager scored a goal, he insists it is no grounds for him to be starting games for the senior team of the Portuguese club.

“The reality of Fatawu is very different from ours. I'm glad he scored, but it was against Nicaragua, with all due respect,” coach Rúben Amorim said at a press conference on Thursday.

According to the gaffer, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku needs to continue learning the ways of the club before he becomes a regular member of the Sporting Lisbon first team.

“It's a completely different world, you have to be aware. He is a young man with fantastic technical and physical potential, but there are basic things he still has to learn, he didn't have a youth school like Mateus Fernandes, for example. He is doing that route and that's why players often go to the B team, because there the coach has more time to teach and help them. We believe a lot in him, but he is on a path that he has to do, he still needs some time to be at the level that is necessary,” the coach added.
