In-form Solomon Asante on target as free-scoring Phoenix Rising set new record in USL

Ghana forward Solomon Asante was on target on Tuesday night as his Phoenix Rising side humbled Tacoma Defiance 4-2 at the Cheney Stadium to record their 16th consecutive victories in the USL.

The current league leaders have been on fire all season and continue to impress week after week. Having played as guests to Tacoma on match week 25 of the ongoing campaign, Phoenix brushed aside their hosts in a 6 goal thriller.

The victors took the lead on the 2nd minute through Adam Jahn but failed to hold on as Hopeau Shandon restored parity to send the home crowd into jubilant mood.

The first half ended with nothing to separate the two sides but a ding dong affair in the second half produced four goals.

First Tacoma took the lead when Bwana Handwalla converted a 72nd-minute penalty to give his side the lead.

With just 10 minutes to end proceedings, Solomon Asante found the back of the net to get his side back into the match. Three minutes later Adam Jahn scored again to complete his brace, giving Phoenix a deserved lead.

Junior Flemmings completed the demolishing exercise with a late goal to seal the historic victory.

Phoenix Rising is the first team in the American professional soccer history to have won 16 straight matches.
