Inconsistency in player selection affecting Ghana at tournaments – George Afriyie

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has blamed the inconsistency in player selection for the country’s poor performance at tournaments.

Ghana has struggled to live up to expectations at major tournaments in recent times.

The Black Stars failed at both AFCON 2021and 2022 World Cup in Qatar, exiting at group stage respectively last year.

At the just ended CHAN tournament in Algeria, the Black Galaxies were booted out at the quarterfinals following a shocking 2-0 defeat to Niger.

And George Afriyie thinks inconsistency in player selection has caused the country’s poor showing.

“We don’t follow consistency but in football, consistency plays a role. Some of the players who we used to qualify the team to Algeria were dropped, so we are not consistent”

“We don’t have a solid program where we make sure that we follow it through that is the problem, it is not about ranking”

“Ranking can be done because we’ve seen countries ranked outside the world in top 20 coming into a major competition and excel, we see it all the time. So it’s not necessarily about the ranking”
