Spanish international Juan Mata has linked up with his former Chelsea teammate Michael Essien at FC Nordsjaelland.
Mata and Essien played together during their time with English powerhouse, winning several titles together.
The duo were instrumental when Chelsea annex the UEFA Champions League title in 2012 under the then manager Roberto di Matteo.
Reports went rife that the 36-year-old Spanish international is closing in on a return to the field after being spotted at Nordjaelland, where Essien serves as the assistant coach.
But the club in a statement has denied such reports, emphasizing Mata is just training with the team.
“Juan Mata has requested the opportunity to train with us for a period while he is in Sweden. Since Mata is a good friend of the club – among other things, as a co-founder of the charitable organization Common Goal, which FC Nordsjælland is a member of – we are happy to accommodate this request”
“There is also no doubt that our young squad will be able to absorb a lot of input and experience during the period he trains with us, so in this way, we can help each other, says Phil Radley, Director of Football at FC Nordsjælland” a statement from the club reads.
