Injuries to Gideon Jung and Gyamerah set to force Hamburg SV to look for replacements

The recent injuries to German-born Ghanaian internationals Jan Gyamerah and Gideon Jung is expected to force Hamburg SV to look for a replacement when the January transfer opens.

The full-back and the defensive midfielder have been both hit with injury blows and will not be available for the club’s upcoming crucial games in the Christmas period.

As if that is not enough, Hamburg is also enduring a bad spell of form after suffering two consecutive defeats against Osnabrück and Heidenheim.

In line with that the club’s Sport Board, Jonas Boldt has hinted that they might get into the transfer market to recruit a couple of reinforcements.

He could however not say for certain as he explained that buying players in the January window is never easy with players often reluctant to move.

“You always worry. I cannot say yet whether we do something or do nothing. We are now focusing on the two difficult away games until Christmas until then there is no way to do so. If anything will happen then you will see”.

Jan Gyamerah and Gideon Jung were born in Germany but have Ghanaian roots. They are both eligible to play for the senior national team even though the latter has already represented Germany at the youth level.
