Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have been dealt a huge blow as Ismail Abdul Ganiyu has been ruled out of their CAF Champions League campaign, Footballghana.com can report.

The 22-year-old suffered a knee injury during the club's training session at the Adako Jachie training complex last week.

Footballghana.com understands that the former Wa All Stars centre-back will leave the shores of Ghana in the coming days to undergo a surgery.

Ganiyu has joined Richard Senanu and Maxwell Baakoh in the treatment room of the Kumasi-based club.

He has been a key influential at Asante Kotoko since joining them from Karela United last year.

Kotoko will begin their CAF Champions League campaign with Nigerian side Kano Pillars on August 10th.

He played an instrumental role in the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition to help Kotoko to clinch the tier-1 after beating Karela United in the finals.

He featured in all matches for Asante Kotoko in their CAF Confederation Cup campaign last season.
