Inter closing in on 70,000 fans for Tottenham clash

After missing out on Champions League football in recent seasons, Inter fans are making up for it as over 60,000 tickets have been sold for their match against Tottenham.

The Nerazzurri are the last Italian side to win the competition back in 2010, and they ended their six-season absence by securing fourth-place last season with a stunning 3-2 victory over Lazio on the final day.

That excitement has carried over to the current campaign, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting over 60,000 seats have been sold for Inter’s opening Champions League match against Tottenham on September 18.

It’s all the more impressive given Wednesday was the first day tickets were made available to the general public and not just season-ticket holders.

As a result, the Nerazzurri will open the terzo anello – which will also seat Tottenham fans – as they close in on over 70,000 tickets being sold.

With 12 days still remaining until the match, Inter’s return to the Champions League is already paying dividends and similar turnouts are expected against Barcelona on November 6 and PSV Eindhoven on December 11.
