INZAGHI: "WE INTERPRETED THE MATCH WELL"

Published on: 14 September 2022

Inter recorded their first Champions League win of the season this evening, beating Viktoria Plzeň 2-0 away from home thanks to goals from Dzeko and Dumfries. This is what Simone Inzaghi had to say having seen his side pick up three important points:

“This is certainly an important result. The lads did well to make the match look easier than it was. Before this evening, no Italian team had ever won here. We interpreted the game well right from the get-go.

“We’re happy because we knew that we couldn’t afford to underestimate our opponents and we didn’t do that. The boys did well; they stayed focused and I congratulated them in the changing room afterwards.

“We’ve had to play many matches in quick succession: this was our third game in the space of six days. The team are growing and I need everyone available. We’ve been without Lukaku, but when Džeko produces such performances, he can recover in a calm manner. Edin did well, just like all of his teammates. Lukaku will return after the international break and it’ll be up to me to decide on the front duo.

“There are difficult moments during every match, but the team have always been on it, sticking together in the process. On Sunday, we know that we’ll come up against a good side with excellent players in really good form. We’ll prepare for it and know that we have four days to work. We’ll do this as best we can.”
