Former Black Stars player, Odartey Lamptey believes that Asamoah Gyan may have it difficult playing in the local league if he moves to Kotoko.

It has been widely reported that Gyan may feature for Kotoko before he retires with the player himself acknowledging that he would like to play for the Porcupine Warriors.

When asked about this on Ahomka FM, Lamptey explained the challenges he might face.

"If somebody like Asamoah Gyan is coming to your team and they are facing Hearts or King Faisal, they will expect Kotoko to win because they have Asamoah Gyan but let me tell you. It is a very difficult thing for a professional player to play for a local team. I remember my first time back in local football when Kotoko faced Hearts. Three days after the game I felt a lot of pain because the body contact is not the same as Europe," he stated.

"Also, players are more likely to mark him because they will receive the instruction to do so. You can't compare Asamoah Gyan's current knowledge of the game to any other local player. When Asamoah Gyan doesn't execute a play with his teammate, they will blame Gyan when it would actually not be his fault."

He does however, believe that it will be a good transfer for Kotoko.

"I think it will be a good move for Kotoko and mother Ghana."
