It would be a dream come true to play at World Cup for Ghana - Rio Ave forward Abdul-Aziz Yakubu

Rio Ave forward Abdul-Aziz Yakubu is relishing the prospect of representing Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Yakubu is in fine form for the Primeira Liga side this season, scoring five goals in seven appearances.

Last season, the 23-year-old played a key role in helping Rio Ave clinch the Liga Portuga 2, making 33 appearances and scoring 11 goals in the process.

"It would be a dream come true. I grew up watching the Black Stars games and that would make my family extremely proud. I dream about it and wish it could happen," he said.

Despite his impressive performance for his club, he was omitted from the Ghana squad for the September friendlies however, he is confident he will make the final squad for the global showpiece.

"I haven't spoken to the head coach yet, but I have already spoken to one of the assistants [ Mas-Ud Dramani ], who is from Tamale, like me," Yakubu added.

"We speak the same dialect and he told me that there is a possibility that I will be called. He asked me to keep scoring goals regularly, because the coaching staff is attentive."
