Former Black Stars management committee member Yaw Boateng Gyan has stressed that it’s not true ex-Ghana President John Dramani Mahama instructed former Ghana FA boss Lawyer Kwesi Nyantakyi to sack Kwesi Appiah.
In a book titled “Leaders Don’t Have To Yell” and authored by former Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah, he has revealed that during his first stint with the national team his sacking was influenced by the then-sitting president John Dramani Mahama.
In the gaffer’s narration, he opined that he was called into the office of former Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi who told him that he has been instructed to show him the exit door.
In an interview with Atinka FM today, ex-Black Stars management committee member Yaw Boateng Gyan has noted that: “The fact that Nyantakyi told you (Kwasi Appiah) doesn’t mean what he [Kwasi Nyantakyi] said was true”.
He added, “President Mahama never instructed him (Nyantakyi) to sack Kwesi Appiah, perhaps he did that to indict former President John Mahama or something.”
Coach Kwesi Appiah who will later be re-appointed as the head coach for the Black Stars in 2017 has seen his contract run out at the end of December 2019 on the back of a disappointing campaign with the team at last year’s edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
