Jamie Carragher Names His Manchester United Premier League All-Star XI Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Published on: 14 October 2016

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been asked to select a best possible Manchester United XI with only players from the Premier League era eligible.

Carragher himself played against many of these legends before United sank in stature under David Moyes. They are now looking to rekindle the old days by snatching a win against a confident and firing Liverpool side at Anfield.

The full line-up can be seenhere at The Sport Bible.

GK: Peter Schmeichel

Defence: Gary Neville,Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra

Midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs

Strikers: Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Wayne Rooney

Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho are in charge of the two huge clubs now, as one of the historical big clashes of the Premier League takes place on Monday night.

A loss for United would cast serious doubts over their title challenge, while Liverpool hope to keep their momentum going ahead of their first one since 2014.

The choices do make for some entertaining imagination, but it is particularly telling that none of them, aside for a much-maligned Wayne Rooney, still plays for the Red Devils.

One of the best ever Premier League centre-back partnerships is picked by Carragher, as Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic slot in in front of Peter Schmeichel.

Unsurprising picks include Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy to partner Rooney up front. The BBC's beloved 'Class of 92' is missing one of its keymembers in David Beckham though, who is omitted in favour of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

If these legends were travelling to Anfield on Monday, even Liverpool would struggle. As it is, they go into the meeting as probable favourites.
