Jonathan Mensah wants to fight for position back in Black Stars

Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah insists he will work hard to get back into the starting line up of the Black Stars despite the strong competition for a place in the squad.

Jonathan Mensah was recalled into the squad by Coach Kwesi Appiah after he missed the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia in June. Ghana won 5-0 with Daniel Amartey and John Boye getting the nod ahead of the Columbus Crew center back.

Competition for places in the new look Kwesi Appiah Black Stars has been stern and Mensah who will be joining the Black Stars in Kumasi for the double header World Cup qualifiers against Congo revealed he will work hard but supports whoever the coach picks.

"With the national team, you have to be disciplined, be there for the team, for the country and yourself. I want to always arrive and do my best, and then whoever the coach chooses to play, he chooses them," he told KweseEspn.

The 27 year old has been in top form recently following his man of thematch performances in the Major League Soccer.

Mensah was on target over the weekend as Columbus Crew defeated Dallas FC, a game he won the man of the match.

The former stade Rennais return to form earned him a call up to the Black Stars.
