Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopphas confirmed that summer signingLoris Karius is the man who he considers to behis number one keeper, ahead of established stopper Simon Mignolet.
The German manager confirmed the news ahead of their EFL Cup clash with Tottenham, but also revealed that Mignolet will return to the post for the midweekmatch.
Quoted by theLiverpool Echoafter being asked during his press conference whether he would shuffle his pack for the cup game and allow Mignolet toreturn for the Merseyside club, Klopp said:
"His chance is at 100%, he has a good chance. That's if nothing happens in training but he will play 100%.
He is a real professional. We had a few talks because it's not that I had the perfect answer. I can't say ˜you are bad, he is good, that's why he's playing'. That's what I call a luxury problem, it's no problem, you only have to make a decision and I made the decision.
Of course he was not happy about this but he is a very serious person and a good professional. For us it's the most comfortable situation I could imagine that we have these goalkeepers fit and in shape so that's it."
Karius is a bit like me in the bedroom, looks nervous, often comes too early and wears goalkeeping gloves.
Karius has started the last five matches for the Merseyside club, keeping a clean sheet against rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.
Speaking of his summer signing, Klopp added:In this moment we have a number one, it's Loris Karius. like we had a number one when Loris was not fit, it was Simon.
Mignolet is a good shot stopper and that is literally it, Klopp wants more from his keeper and so should you and that's what Karius offers
"I can imagine what you now make of this but that's the situation. I cannot leave them in doubt. There was a short moment with the two or three games we gave Loris to see a bit more of him but after the last international break we made this decision.
For a player it's not a big thing. It's always a big thing not to start, not to play, for goalkeepers it's a bit different, but there's nothing more to say.We made a decision and the ranking is Loris in this moment is number one and Simon is number two.
Mignolet signed for the Reds in 2013, but has come under criticism for making a number of keyerrors during his time playing for them.
