Ghanaian midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng is set to return to Italian side Sassuolo in the summer due to Barcelona's failure to activate their option to buy after a six-month loan, according to reports in Spain.
Despite making a big impact in Serie A with five goals and an assist in 15 competitive games for US Sassuolo, the 32-year-old failed to command a starting berth after the Spanish Champions in January.
Boateng played a total of 123 minutes of football in the second half of the season in the Spanish capital.
The former AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund ace is expected to return to the Mapei Stadium to join his compatriot Alfred Duncan as the Spanish giants won’t activate their €8m option to buy.
He is likely to remain at Sassuolo and work under coach Roberto De Zerbi ahead of the commencement of the next season.
The versatile midfielder has previously played Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Genoa, Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Las Palmas.
