Kasper Schmeichel Says Leicester Will Not Panic Despite Poor Start

Leicester City's title-winning goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has revealed that the Foxes' players have held frank discussions following their poor start to the Premier League season, but insists there is no need for panic, as reported by the Telegraph.

Defeat to Chelsea on Saturday left Leicester in thirteenth place, having lost all four of their away matches, conceding fourteen goals in the process, but Schmeichel insists he remains relaxed.

"[The players] have had a chat and things have been said and resolved, now we move on," the Danish international said.

"Any defeat hurts and it's not nice to lose the way we did [against Chelsea]. We've had to look at ourselves in the mirror and get back on it because this is a massive test for us.

"I'm confident we'll come back strongly and I've known a lot of the players for many years, I would never question their heart at all.

"Our mentality won us the league last season, but we've been good enough in the Champions League. You have to pinch yourself that we're playing in Europe - a few years ago we were playing on Tuesday nights in the Championship in front of much smaller crowds."

Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri also moved to defend star striker Jamie Vardy, after he was criticised by Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer for "sulking" after Saturday's defeat at Stamford Bridge.

"I think ex-players can say everything. Shearer was a fantastic scorer, but some matches you can score, some matches you can't," Ranieri stated.

"If you're speaking about the Chelsea game, I told Jamie to stay with David Luiz and only with him. I wanted him to counter attack and leave him with Luiz - so it's not his fault, maybe mine.

"I'm very confident in him - when he presses, all the team follow him. Would I drop him? No, it's important he stays calm and strong and he will score a goal."
