Roma winger Justin Kluivert insisted that he is ready to become a regular in the first team after signing for the club in the summer.
The Dutch teenager arrived at the Stadio Olimpico from Ajax and began his Serie A career with a bang, coming off the bench and performing a fine dribble to set up Edin Dzeko for the only goal on debut in a 1-0 win over Torino.
However, Kluivert has been limited to just 45 minutes of action subsequently, and admitted that he was determined to break into the first team.
“I want to become a regular in the starting line-up, I left [Ajax] for that” the 19-year-old told La Gazzetta dello Sport from the Netherlands’ training camp, where he has linked up for international duty.
“My moment has not arrived yet, but I have been given some minutes and I am happy. I’m also satisfied with the training sessions.
“Everyone knew that it would be difficult to start with at Roma, because the expectations and demands are so high. At Ajax I had more freedom on the pitch, whereas here I have to play further infield.
“I’m becoming more comfortable, and the wonderful players at Trigoria [Roma’s training ground] help. They improve me and make me more intelligent on the pitch.”
Kluivert will be looking to win his second cap for the Netherlands as the Oranje take on Peru and Belgium in the coming days.
