The highly anticipated derby at Wembley Stadium saw the two Manchester rivals lock horns, with City having a slight edge in their head-to-head record with 19 wins, compared to United's 14 wins and 4 draws.

Mainoo, who started the game and played the full 90 minutes, played a crucial role in United's victory. The Red Devils took the lead in the first half after a defensive error by Josko Gvardiol, with Alejandro Garnacho capitalizing on the mistake to score an easy goal. United doubled their lead later in the half, with Bruno Fernandes providing a clever assist to Mainoo, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Manchester City, however, refused to go down without a fight, and Belgian-born Ghanaian winger Jeremy Doku, who came off the bench, scored a stunning goal from the edge of the box to pull one back for his team. City launched a late onslaught in search of an equalizer, but the United defense held firm to secure a hard fought victory.
