Kotoko, King Faisal stranded as Baba Yara Stadium receives major renovation

The temporary closure of Baba Yara Stadium to receive a major facelift have forced   Kumasi Asante Kotoko and King Faisal to be nomads looking for a new home venue to settle.

The Baba Yara Stadium will host Ghana's 63rd Independence day on the 6th of March, and has been closed down temporary for contractors to fix critical places of the stadium before the celebration and resume the total renovation immediately after the celebration.

This has forced the Porcupine Warriors and the In Sha Allah boys who play their GPL home matches at Baba Yara Stadium to settle for a new home venue which must be approved by the Club Licensing board before they can adopt as their home grounds.

Both teams now have to play the rest of their Ghana Premier league matches home away from home starting with week 12.

Information gathered by Footballghana.com indicates that Kotoko are planning to adopt the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium as their new grounds if all things being equal. But management are yet to chose a home venue for the team.

King Faisal who are also stranded are looking at the Paa Joe Park at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST) in Kumasi if only the Club Licensing board will approve the venue for GPL games but Faisal management are yet to speak on the closure and their next destination.

Other Division one League clubs using the state edifice need to find a different venue for their home games.

But Sports Minister Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah has proposed the Nyinahin multi purpose sports center which according to him is 96% ready for Asante Kotoko to play their matches there.

The iconic grounds of Ghana Football Baba Yara Stadium will be ready by October, for the clubs to return to their favourite home grounds according to the Sports Minister.
