The Portuguese coach is currently in his homeland for holidays and is expected to arrive in Ghana shortly to begin pre-season ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign.

Barreto’s future at the club currently hangs in the balance following remarks he made about the club before his departure.

The 64-year-old who took over from Maxwell Konadu steered the club to a 2nd placed finish in the 2020/21 season.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM, Nana Yaw Amponsah, who is the CEO of the club said, “Management and the board are discussing whether the coach should stay or not."

Kotoko will be looking to improve on their performance in the coming season, however, it is unclear if Barreto will still be in charge of the club for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that the club have reached an agreement with Prosper Nerteh Ogum to take over the club as the new head coach.
