Kotoko Striker Seidu Bancey to miss the rest of the season after DC ban

Published on: 19 August 2016

Asante Kotoko forward Seidu Bancey has been suspended for the rest of the 2015/2016 football season as a result of misconduct in the Ghana Premier League match against New Edubiase.

The 26 year old striker, who rejoined Kotoko this season after spells abroad, will have an early off-season after the Disciplinary committee of the Ghana football association handed him the ban effective Friday, August 19, 2016. Seidu Bancey immediately after the match between New Edubiase United and Kumasi Asante Kotoko played at Bekwai on 27th July, 2016, violently attacked the match officials in violation of the GFA General Regulations and was charged accordingly. The striker in his response pleaded not guilty to the charge and stated that immediately after the match he went to the officials of New Edubiase FC, his former club, to chat with them. The player added that he was nowhere near the referee let alone attacks him. However, video evidence clearly showed Seidu Bancey chasing the referee and physically and verbally attacking him leading to his ban. This means the Porcupine warriors will be without their striker when they travel to play Hasaacas in Sekondi on Sunday 21 August, 2016.
