Posh made a strong start to the game, forcing two early corners after fine front-line pressure, and skipper Jonson Clarke-Harris struck a free-kick from 35 yards into a solid-looking wall.

On 12 minutes, Jack Taylor used a beautiful flick to create a shooting opportunity, and his effort from nearly 30 yards took a touch off the head of Farrend Rawson and went into the top corner past Ripley's outstretched arms.

On 21 minutes, Joe Ward's free-kick from the outside of the box proved a catastrophe for Ripley in the Morecambe goal, who allowed the attempt slide past his body and into the back of the net.

Soon after, Kwame Poku cut inside onto his left foot, and his shot deflected and reached the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Poku has five goals and seven assists in 27 appearances for Peterborough United in all competitions.
