Former Fulham defensive midfielder Derek Boateng has emphatically stated that the Spanish top flight is the most competitive for him.

Boateng, 37 had the opportunity to travel across Europe and play football. He played in countries like Isreal, Sweden, England and Germany during a career that went on for almost 20 years. He also played for the Black Stars in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

He however saw the league in Spain to be the most competitive and one that he had huge success there.

“I would say Spain [was the most competitive league I played]. When I moved to England, the injuries were a lot so I didn’t enjoy the league, I didn’t play a lot of games. Spain was the place I played a lot of games," he told Nathaniel Attoh on the Joy Sports Link.

"I had a very good season. During my first season, I won the MVP in the team (Getafe). We had really good players but I won the accolade. We placed sixth that season. The second season was also great."

Derek Boateng played for Rayo Vallecano and Eibar in Spain.
