Leicester 1-2 West Brom: Matt Phillips Scores 1st Goal for Baggies as Club Earns Great Away Win

Published on: 06 November 2016

Matt Phillips scored his first goal for West Brom as they beat Leicester at the King Power stadium.West Brom were good value for the win and goals from James Morrison and Phillips helped them to beat an -at times - poor Leicester side.

West Brom came into the game knowing that following Hull's victory over Southampton earlier on Sunday, that they were only outside the bottom three on goal difference.

Leicester on the other hand were without keeper Kasper Schmeichel after he fractured his handmidweek following the draw with FC Copenhagen. Meanwhile, there was no place in the starting XI for Jamie Vardy.

West Brom started the better of the two sides and that pattern followed suitin what was a very abject first half. The Baggies created more than their hosts and Leicester keeper Ron-Robert Zieler almost gifted a goal to Salomon Rondon after he dawdled with the ball in the box.

Leicester failed to test Baggies keeper Ben Foster in the first half and didn't register a single shot on goal in the first period.

0 - Leicester failed to register an attempt on goal in the first half of a home game since returning to the Premier League (14/15). Futile.

The second half was a sharp contrast to the first and West Brom came flying out the trapsand got a deserved goal, rightat the start - adelicious cross was put into the box by Matt Phillips, which was dulyguided into the back of the net by James Morrison.

The goal seemed to provoke Leicester and they got an equalisersoon after. This time Riyad Mahrez whipped in a cross which was finished expertly by Islam Slimani, who managed to get the benefit of what might - on another night -been acall for offside.

The game had now come to life and West Brom had a shot cleared off the line as the match became more stretched. West Brom then took the lead for the second time in the game when a stray Danny Drinkwater pass inadvertentlyplayed in Matt Phillips who beat Wes Morgan for pace.

Phillips then had the audacity to dink the ball over Zieler to restore the Baggies lead, scoring his first goalfor the club in the process.

Following the goal, Leicester upped the tempo and found reserves that were lacking for much of the game. Andy King and Jamie Vardy both had headed chances to get Leicester back level, but both failed to convert.

In the end, the Baggies held on and managed to become the first team to beat Leicester at homein the Premier League since Arsenal put five past them early last season.
