The 46-year-old admits he feels for Leicester City's fringe players as he praised their contribution to the team's stunning form.

Four straight wins have taken the foxes to second place in the Premier League with the Ghanaian not playing a single game.

"It’s not hard to keep the squad happy but I have empathy for the guys because we’re only at the level we’re at because of the players that aren’t playing," he said.

"There’s Papy Mendy, who had been playing a lot of games [last season], and Daniel Amartey, those two aren’t even in the squad,"

"Their mentality and focus allow us to be the best that we can. It’s my job to manage that, I speak a lot with the players, they understand where it’s at, they’re clear on where they stand within recognize,"

"I recognize how difficult it is, but they never show it. They turn up every day to train, to be the best they can be."

Nine senior players have played less than 10 times this season with right-back Daniel Amartey only just returned to fitness after breaking his ankle a year ago.

One way for players to get more games is for City to get into Europe next season.

They are undoubtedly on track for that and Rodgers is aware European football would make his job easier.

"The spirit in the team is very strong. It’s my job to manage that but it’s not easy because you want to play them all, but obviously you can’t," he said.

"Hopefully in the future, if we can develop well and get into European football at some point in my time here, then there’s obviously more games to play."
