Liverpool Boosted as Georginio Wijnaldum Could Be Fit for Manchester United Clash

Liverpool midfielderGeorginio Wijnaldum may yet be fit to face Manchester United on Monday night after scans revealed a potential hamstring problem was a hip complaint.

Wijnaldum limped off for Holland during their 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to France earlier in the week but updates on his fitness are more positive than anticipated after undergoing tests at Melwood, according to theLiverpool Echo.

The 25-year-old former Newcastle United player is undergoing intensive treatment and manager Jurgen Klopp has not yet given up on his chances of starting against United.

Luckily for Klopp, he has Lucas Leiva and Emre Can available as two capable deputies in Wijnaldum's absence but the coach will be keen to continue the Dutchman's midfield partnership with Jordan Henderson.

Meanwhile, defenders Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren, who both withdrew from international duty due to injury, are expected to be available on Monday after resuming full training. The bad news for Liverpool fans is that Adam Lallana remains a major doubt following his groin injury picked up in the victory over Swansea City.

Liverpool are looking for their sixth successive win in all competitions when they entertain Jose Mourinho's side at Anfield. However, the Reds' recent league record against their old rivals is dismal, having lost the last four.

With the Premier League reawakening after its international break slumber, this is the game on everyone's lips.
