The England striker has been linked with a move away from Anfield in January, with West Ham and Stoke City reportedly keeping close watch.
But theExpressare claiming that Southampton are also in the race, with Claude Puel's side planning to take Sturridge inon loan before a £25m permanentdeal at the end of the season.
Puel wants a regular strikingpartner for Shane Long and has made Sturridge his number one priority this January.
However, there are still lingering concerns over the England striker's fitness, which is why the Saints want to take him on loan before committing to a long-term deal.
