Liverpool Continue to Keep Tabs on German Starlet Max Meyer Despite Failed Summer Pursuit

Liverpool are still keeping tabs on Schalke midfielderMax Meyer, despite failing to land the talented youngster in the summer, according toreports.


The 20-year-old,who revealed his desire to play in the Premier League earlier this summer, is one of the hottest prospects to come out of the Bundesliga in recent seasons, with the German media dubbing him as the 'German Messi'.

In July it was reportedthat Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was a keen admirer of Meyer and that everything was in place for a€33mswitch.


However, negotiations broke down, and now Meyer has confessed that he is happy to stay at Schalke for the remainder of his two-year contract in spite of Liverpool's interest.


"I've got two years left on my contract here," Meyer told Sport1, as quoted inthe Mirror.


"And if you are referring to what happened during those final two transfer days “ I will not leave the club through the back door.

"I've said that I won't leave this summer, and that stands. I know that we have a lot of potential here, we've added good players, and a good coach."


The youngster has been an ever-present in Schalke's side over the past three seasons, averaging 40 appearances per campaign.


In that period he has scored 19 times for his club and once for his country, scoring on his third appearance for Germany's senior side in a friendly against Finland in August.


Meyer was helpless on Friday as Schalke fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to German champions Bayern Munich, with late goals coming fromRobert Lewandowski and Joshua Kimmich.
