Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard Names His Pick for 'Best of All Time' Honour

Published on: 23 November 2016

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard had quite a long career and has played alongside, as well as against, some of the best players to ever touch a football.

That gives him more right than most to confidently name the greatest footballer of all time.

Gerrard, who announced his retirement from football on Thursday having recently called time on hisLA Galaxy career, believes that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is the best footballer on the planet.

Gerrard is also of the opinion that there has never been anyone better, nor will there ever be anyone who will fill the boots of the diminutive Argentine magician.

He's an incredible footballer, he said on BT Sport, watching Messi score a brace against Celtic in the Champions League to give Barca a 2-0 victory.

I think the best ever. The best there will ever be. It's just an absolute pleasure to watch him.

This is sure to rile up Cristiano Ronaldo and some of his fans, but Gerrard has never been afraid of speaking his mind and won't be too bothered.
