Lorenzo Insigne Reportedly Open to Liverpool Move as Napoli Contract Talks Stall

Liverpool have been handed a boost in the pursuit of Lorenzo Insigne after the striker allegedly stated he would be open to joining them.

Italian publication Rai Sport claimed that the Napoli star has informed his representatives to enquire about the possibility of opening discussions over a move to Anfield in the wake of a troubling time in Naples.

Insigne has seen contract talks with the Serie A club reach an impasse in recent weeks after reports suggested that Napoli have rejected the 25-year-old's ludicrous wage demands to remain in Italy.

Insigne has also had to contend with Napoli supporters turning their backs on the forward, with the Italianclose to tears after being heckled by the Stadio San Paolo crowd for missing a penalty in Wednesday's 3-2 Champions League defeat to Besiktas.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a fan of Insigne's, and is monitoring the Italy international's situation with Napoli with the view to making a bid for his services.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss is keen on strengthening his attacking options on Merseyside, despite currently possessing a number of talented strikers at the club.

Will stop watching football fully if Insigne goes Liverpool

Roberto Firmino has led the line for much of the 2016/17 campaign, while Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi remains other viable alternatives to Klopp.

However, doubts remain over Sturridge's long-term future with Liverpool, and Origi remains one for the future as he continues to learn his trade in the English top flight.

One potential sticking point in any move for Insigne is likely to be the transfer fee required to prise him away from Napoli, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that the Italian outfit would start the bidding at a hefty £44m to part with their star, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool would be willing to match such a price.

Insigne rose through the youth ranks at Napoli and made his debut in January 2010 under then manager Walter Mazzarri.

The forward has notched 29 goals and 41 assists in 176 appearances for Napoli, but is yet to find the back of the net in 11 games so far this term.
