Liverpool's new number one Loris Karius has said that Liverpool are not afraid of their arch rivals but do respect them as Manchester United prepare to host the Merseysiders on the 17 October.

The German broke his hand during pre-season but has now established himself ahead of Simon Mignolet in the goalkeeping hierarchy, having started the previous two league games and is likely to play in Monday's fixture.

Liverpool have had a much more convincing start to the season than Jose Mourinho's Manchester United and have three more points.Speaking to Premier League Productions, the goalkeeper said It will be a big game; I think it will be a close game.

"Man United has a good, strong team but we have a great team and we play at home. We have respect for them but we're not scared of them and we know we want to win the game.

We'll have a good plan “ or more than one plan “ so we will be well prepared. Monday night at Anfield, the fans will be behind us, so I think everyone's looking forward to it.

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the Premier League table two points off first-placed Manchester City.

Having spent £150m in the summer on the likes of Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mikhitarian and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Manchester United, are however in a disappointing sixth position - five points behind Manchester City.
